With the development of economy, the improvement of people's living standard and consuming unbalanced diet, an epidemic of obesity and hyperlipidemia is going on. Weight losing and lipid lowing also becomes the hot topic. As a healthy and scientific method for reducing weight, drinking tea has been accepted by the public. Tea plant flower (TF) is a by-product of tea plant which has similar chemical composition to fresh tea leaves. Recently, increasing researches show that TF is a resource with extensive significance and value. In this study, the basic research on the bioactivity of TF was done. The effects of anti-tumor, immunoregulation, weight losing and lipid lowing were observed. More detail test shows that, TF has a significant effect on weight losing and lipid lowing by partial dose-dependently and by improving the atherogenic index. The main results were as follows:1. The polysaccharide (TFP), isolated from tea plant flower, was extracted by hot water and further evaluated in vivo systems. Inhibition rate of tumor growth test, delayed-type hypersensitivity test and carbon clearance test showed that continuous administration of TFP for 10 days significantly inhibited the growth of transplanted S180, increased the macrophage phagocytosis and the delayed-type hypersensitivity response induced by dinitrofluorobenzene in mice. These results concluded that TFP enhances the host defense response to tumor due in part to the immunomodulatory activity.2. This paper compared the preventive effect of TF.with green tea and pu-erh tea on obesity and hyperlipidemia. The average body weight (BW), fat coefficient (FC), the serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and the atherosclerosis index (AI) in rats were evaluated. The contrast study shows that:all parameters of TF, green tea and pu-erh tea group were improved than those of the control group. The serum levels of TF group were better than those of green tea group. It draw a conclusion that TF has an effect on obesity and hyperlipidemia in rats, and the effect on improving of lipid levels is better than green tea.3. While all treatments of TF were found to be effective on weight losing and lipid lowing in rats, different dosages (2.5%,5%,7.5%) show different degrees of effects. BW, FC, TC, TG, LDL-C and AI of rats supplemented with 5% TF were significantly lower than other groups. The results demonstrate that TF has a partial dose-dependently effect on obesity and hyperlipidemia in rats and dosage of 5% supplementation is the best.4. After obesity models were established by high-fat-diet, rats with nutrition obesity were divided into 4 groups, respectively fed with high-fat-diet (HF), basal-diet (C), high-fat-diet with 5% tea plant flower (F-HF), basal-diet with 5% tea plant flower (F-C). By the end of 30 days, BW, FC, TC, TG, LDL-C and AI of F-HF and F-C group were significant lower or non-significant lower than those of HF and C group respectively. The levels of HDL-C in the group of F-HF and F-C were improved than those of non-supplemented with TF groups respectively. All these results show that TF has an effect on lipid lowing and weight losing in rats, and this effect is not completely observed just by the diet adjustment, i.e., only by changing round the diet from high fat to the basic. TF can significantly improve lipid levels in rats, and the effect is better than diet adjustment.
