Study On An Improved Extension Mode For Tobacco Production Techniques In Changde

Tobacco is an important contributor to agricultural economy and also one of the main revenue sources in Hunan province. Tobacco production is a key factor for a stable and healthy development of cigarette industry, and the extension system and mode of tobacco production techniques directly affect the output, quality and benefit of tobacco production. This paper will introduce significative research results on an improved extension mode for tobacco production techniques adapt to Changde district.The research methods include analysing useful references, studying natural and social status,and investigating production situation of different tobacco-yielding counties of Changde in recent years. The main results are as follows:1.Changde possesses advantaged climatic and edaphic conditions suitting for planting the crop of tobacco. There is about 53,300ha tobaccoo-fitting arable land for expanding tobacco production scale, comparing to current 3,700ha tobacco planting acreage.On the other hand,Changde has a long tobacco cultivation history, affluent tobacco production experience, and excellent economic and social background for developping tobacco industry. However, the lagged extension system of tobacco production techniques became a barrier to this development, and it is exigent to find an improved system or mode for tobacco production techniques extension.2.System composing form is the basis of an effective extension mode. According to current conditions and beneficial body in Changde, the extension organization of tobacco company itself should be the main body in the extension system, collaborating closely with other members such as agricultural institutes, farmer's associations and farmer technicians.Simultaneously, we should pay more attention to build up an educated and competent extension team for satisfied instruction and service in tobacco production.3.Advanced extension measures are the core of an effective extension mode. Farmer's association is the main organization,accounting for organizing specialized service team armed with speciality machines in large-scale tobacco production. The detailed service running mechanism should be modified in practice according to local situation.4.Technique training and smooth information are important guarantees for an effective extension mode. We can construct more and more tobacco production technique training centers and science popularization laboratories, specialized technicians periodically organize different kind of technique training for farmer technicians, then these farmer technicians transfer new techniques to thousands of farmers.In the mean time, we should release latest informations to farmers to prevent and solve problems in tobacco production, by making use of different media.5.The improved extension mode showed obvious efficiency on yield,quality and income in tobacco production practice in 2009.The total tobacco output of Changde in 2009 was 8470000kg,which was 182.3% and 23.3% higher than that of 2007 and 2008 respectively. The high quality tobacco ratio was 88.9%, which was 9.6% and 7.9% higher than that of 2007 and 2008 respectively. The total production value was 122.245 million RMB, which was 318.0% and 40.4% higher than that of 2007 and 2008 respectively.
