Objective To investigate the traditional Chinese medicine constitution in patients with metabolic syndrome, and evaluate the effectiveness of individualized medical care plans.Methods 280 patients with metabolic syndrome were randomly divided into control group and intervention group, 140 cases in each group. Indentify the traditional Chinese medicine constitution of each patient by traditional Chinese medicine constitution survey. Individualized medical care plans were given to intervention group, while control group with no specific intervention. After six months, observe the changes of body mass index, blood sugar, blood lipid and blood pressure in each group.Results Among the 280 patients with metabolic syndrome, 79 cases were phlegm-dampness constitution, 66 cases were qi-insufficiency constitution, 48 cases were dampness-heat constitution, 32 cases were yin deficiency constitution, 18 cases were blood stasis constitution, 15 cases were yang deficiency constitution, 11 cases were qi depression constitution, 9 cases were peace constitution, and 2 cases were great mass constitution. After six months treatment, the BMI, TG and blood pressure level decreased(P < 0.05), and the HDL-C level increased(P < 0.05)in both group. The blood sugar of the intervention group decreased(P < 0.05), while no obvious change in the blood sugar level of the control group(P > 0.05).Compared with the control group, the indicators of intervention group change was more significant(P < 0.05).Conclusion Among 280 patients, phlegm-dampness constitution, qi-insufficiency constitution and dampness-heat constitution were in the majority. And the phlegm-dampness constitution were the most common constitution in patients with metabolic syndrome. By the intervention of individualized medical care plans for six months, the body mass index, blood sugar, blood lipid and blood pressure of the intervention group showed better improvement than the control group, indicated that the individualized medical care plans were valid.
