Political stability, economic development and cultural prosperity are the distinctive features in the Tang Dynasty. After the Zhengguan and Kaiyuan prosperous time, the whole society presents a thriving scene and person’s meterial lives are more abundant. With the progress of navigation technologies and the rising up of the Tang, Arab and the countries in the south China sea, represented by the Srivijaya, the silk road in the south China sea enters a thriving period of development. A lot of Nanhai fragrant medicines are spreat to the Tang Empire by the businessmen in the Arab, Indian and the south China sea, such as Linyi and Funan’s agilawood, Poli, Bingcu and Sri vijayais’kapur, Bao’s blumea dc, Dunxun and Dukun’s ageratum, India, Java and Sunda peninsula’s sandalwood etc. Because the good swell of these fragrant medicines, they were widely used for sacrifice, lavender, religion ceremony, etc. They are used as the symbol of the identities and status. What is more important is that the Nanhai fragrant medicines are valued by the doctors in the Tang Dynasty, used to treat a lot of diseases. As is were, the Nanhai fragrant medicines play a significant role in the social medical treatment field. Their input not only increases the varieties of traditional Chinese medichines in the Tang Dynasty, but also adds many good prescriptions and eases the pains of person, to some extent. The medical value is one of the important values of the Nanhai fragrant medicines.This paper is dedicated to research Nanhai fragrant medicines’input and its medical value. Besides the abstract and the conclusion, the full paper is mainly divided into three parts, such as the Nanhai fragrant medicines’input, species and producing areas in the Tang Dynasty and the Nanhai fragrant medicines relationship with diseases. With the whole research of the three contents, this paper tries to reveal the input process of Nanhai fragrant medicines and its role in the field of social medical treatments in the Tang Dynasty.The first part is the first chapter of the paper, which is the background of the thesis, mainly inspecting the input of Nanhai fragrant medicines in the Tang Dynasty. The first section mainly discusses the prosperity of the silk road in the south China sea to show the Nanhai fragrant medicines’input paths. The second section mainly discusses the Nanhai fragrant medicines’input mode. The Nanhai fragrant medicines are introduces into Chian by two main ways:one is the Arabia, India and south China sea states’ tribute trabe with China; second is the countries’paytribute trade with China in the south China sea; The third section mainly discusses the reason of Nanhai fragrant medicines’trade flourish in the Tang Dynasty. By navigated, its reason can be summed into four aspects:the first is the progress of the navigation technologies in the Tang Dynasty; the second is the national situations of the Tang, Arab, and the countries in the south China sea; the third is the Tang Dynasty’protective policies of foreign businessmen; the fourth is the Tang person’s pursuit of Nanhai fragrant medicines.The second part is the second chapter of the paper, mainly inpecting the species and produciong area of Nanhai pragrant medicines. This chapter is divided into six sections, repectively discussing the producing areas of agilawood, kapur, blumeada, turbo operculum, ageratum, scandalwood etc. By investigated, agilawood is produced in Linyi and Funan; kapur is produced in Poli, Bingcu and Sri vijaya; blumea dc is produced in Biao; tuibo operculum is produced in the south China sea; ageratum is produced in the Dunxun and Dukun; scandalwood etc is produced in die India, Jave. Sunda peninsula.The third part, which is the the core of the paper, mainly research on the medical value of Nanhai fragrant medicines. The first section is mainly disscusses agilawood’s value in the treatments of ghost disease, beriberi, evil nuclear swelling, body odour, sore diseases; The second section mainly discusses the medical value of kapur in the treatments of eye diseases, dysentery and sore diseases; The third section mainly discusses the medical value of cloves in the treatments of toothtache, hemorroide, sore disease, carbuncle-abscess swelling, colera, dysentery, yellow disease, white scales and baldness; The fourth section mainly discusses the medical value of ageratum in the treatments of swelling, colera, white scales and baldness, body odour; The fifth section mainly disscusses the medical value of scandalwood etc in the treatments of ghost diseases, colera, swelling disease, incised wood. Finally, through the study of Nanhai fragrant medicines, the paper reveals the significant curative effects on the treatments of swelling desense, colera and boby odour.
