On The Theory Of Spleen From The Perspective Of System Theory

In the theoretical system of traditional Chinese medicine, viscera-state theory is regarded as the core theory. The spleen is “the acquired base of life”, and its theoretical research has become the vital part of the modernization of the traditional Chinese medicine. Comparing the concept of holism of Chinese medicine with the western medicine, we can perceive that the “Whole holistic concept” of reductionism in western medicine cannot be the interpretation of the “Original Holistic Concept” theory of traditional Chinese medicine. What the “Spleen viscera-state theory” lacks is not physical and chemical indicators, but the correct comprehension of indicators, the way to find the implicit connection of the related indicators and the reflection towards the construction of organic whole “spleen viscera-state theory system”. With the promotion of science and technology, the thought of systems theory has also been developed and proved to be a scientific and high-level holistic concept. In this paper, the principle of system theory is applied to analyze the interrelated substance of the spleen viscera-state theory in traditional Chinese medicine. And the monolithic relevance, dynamics, orderliness, hierarchical nature, self-organized nature embedded inside spleen viscera-state theory are also thoroughly discussed, which reveals the common characteristics between the spleen viscera-state theory and the system theory and propounds the possibility that the reasonable application of system theory could provide correct method for the development of the spleen viscera-state theory in traditional Chinese medicine. It is convinced that in field of the spleen viscera-state theory it will come to a summarized truth, but a complicated jungle of system theory will come our way until it is penetrated.
