Research On Intercultural Communication Of Ma Wandao 's Health Theory Based On Communication Coding And Decoding Theory

Objective Aiming to explore strategies of Mawangdui health theory’s intercultural communication, as well as promote and bloom the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Culture of Hunan.Method In this paper, UK area has been selected as the research case. It will mainly adopt Communications and Sociology’s qualitative methods such as interview, participant observation and ethnomethodology, as well as some complementary quantitative surveys to collect related research data. At the same time, it will use Communications’encoding and decoding approaches as analysis method. This study has deeply interviewed five volunteers from UK, has visited six practitioners of TCM, and has statistical analyzed630medical records. It has also involved in TCM treatments, Qigong classes and Chinese intercultural communication activities several times. In order to investigate the present situation from cultural communication, medical practice and fitness three aspects, and to discuss the advantages, disadvantages and their relative tactics of Mawangdui health theory’s intercultural communication in terms of encoding and decoding approaches.Results1. Status quo of Communication:Overall speaking,’Mawangdui’has been staying in the primary recognition communication phase currently. The cultural symbol of’Mawangdui’had not been effectively connected with specific contents.2. Advantages of Communication:First, the complexity of Mawangdui health theory is beneficial for diverse encoding process, which may make receivers of other cultures find their common interests in the process of receiving cultural symbols. Secondly, Mawangdui health theory has been believed as a medical science system, it has the meaning of pragmatism. Thirdly, it has the advantage of flexible combination with other TCM communicators because of its cultural heritage status. Lastly, domestic and international environments may be more conducive to Mawangdui health theory.3. Disadvantages of Communication:Cultural barriers and conflicts between eastern and western systems, mistaken decoding problems of other cultural receivers, market pressure from international medical system, and lacking of a powerful official institution to guide and integrate planning. 4. Strategies of Communication:Firstly, constructing a relatively stable official agency of’Mawangdui’for adjusting the ways and contents of intercultural communication. Secondly, building an internet interactive communication mode to enhance the strength of mass communication. Thirdly, delivering the easier rather than harder communication contents such as acceptable’Daoyin’ theory in the beginning. Fourthly, enriching the communication contents and promoting a strong driving power of communication, such as carrying out’Mawangdui’cultural tourisms and developing health care products.Conclusion The findings and discussions of research demonstrate that we should make full use of Mawangdui health theory’s advantages, including its complexity, pragmatism, flexibility and environmental supports. And indicate that establishing a relatively stable long-term goal and constantly adjusting periodic orientations may be the most important principle and method. Correspondingly, it is also needed to change the contents and ways of intercultural communication under this principle.
