Objective:To explore the impact of the autologous cytokine induced killer(CIK) cells with endocrine therapy on T-cell subsets, quality of life and safetyin post-operative elderly patients with breast cancer.Methods:86post-operative elderly patients with breast cancer treated at theOncology Department of General Hospital of Shenyang Military Region from July2011to December2013were included in this study.41patients in the combinationgroup had accepted autologous CIK cells and endocrine therapy,45patients inthe control group just had accepted endocrine therapy. the changes of T-cellsubsets, quality of life and adverse reactions were evaluated.Results:1. Changes of T-cell subsets: CD3+, CD3+CD8+, CD3+CD56+T-cell ratios of thecombination group was significantly higher than that before treatment and thecontrol group (P<0.05). The CD3+, CD3+CD8+, CD3+CD56+T-cell ratios of thecombination group after4times autologous CIK cells treatment was higher thanthat after2times (P<0.05). T-cell subsets of the control group had no obviouschanges.2.Changes of the quality of life: The overall quality of life, physical function, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, insomnia, loss of appetite, worries about thefuture, treatment related adverse reaction of patients in the combination groupwere significantly improved than that before treatment and the control group(P<0.05), all of these symptoms after4times autologous CIK cells treatmentwere better than that after2times. As to emotional function and social functionafter4times autologous CIK cells treatment the combination group were betterthan the control group (P<0.05). Emotional function and overall quality of life of the control group were decreased (P<0.05), nausea and vomiting, insomnia, loss of appetite were worse than that before treatment (P<0.05).3.Adverse reactions: the main adverse reactions were facial blushing, sweating, fatigue, nausea, arthralgia, myalgia, fever. the incidences of nausea andfatigue in combination group were lower than that in control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Autologous cytokine induced killer (CIK) cells combined with endocrine therapycan rise the T-cell subsets ratios, improve the quality of life and reduce theadverse reactions of endocrine therapy in elderly patients with breast cancer.
