Psychological stress is a physical and psychological state of tension which caused by the imbalance cognition of the requirements of the environment and the ability in the adaptation process of the individual, and the tension could be reflected through non specific psychological and physiological performance. With increasing professional competition, work pressure increases and the quickening pace of life, people are under increasing stress, the intense psychological pressure can cause hypertension, arrhythmia, digestive system dysfunction and other diseases,so that psychological stress has gradually become the focus of social concern. The peripheral mechanisms of psychological stress of includes neuroendocrine regulation such as the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) and the autonomic nervous system. Among them the autonomic nervous system regulation includes sympathetic nervous system and systema nervorum parasympatheticum, and the regulation of HPA axis can be reflected in the synthesis and secretion of adrenal cortex hormone (GC). Some researches of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) think that psychological stress affects body’s common movement of qi, and it does harm to the function of organs. Conveyance and dispersion of the liver regulate the body’s common movement of qi, and the function of the liver controlling conveyance and dispersion has an important role in neuroendocrine regulation of organism, so that this research studies the regulation and control of psychological stress from the function of liver controlling dispersion. The mood change is one of the manifestation of psychological stress. The liver plays an irreplaceable role in emotional control, and it’s the guarantee of emotional activities. Psychological stress belongs to the abnormality of mood in TCM, so that this research investigates the regulation of the conveyance and dispersion of the liver from the perspective of emotion regulation. The emotional change caused by psychological stress can reflect the differences of the ragulation of psychological stress by the conveyance and dispersion of the liver. In recent years, some researches speculated the physiological function of liver in TCM through the pathological changes of patient with diseases or syndromes related to liver. Results show that there is the dysfunction of vegetative nervous system in some patients with common syndromes of liver disease in TCM, and the level of psychological stress of some patients in this condition increased with more hyperactivity of function of peripheral sympathetic-adrenal medulla, but the research of psychological stress of liver regulation from the perspective of emotion regulation and control with subjects of healthy people is lacked.Research methods in psychology on mental stress test is more mature including the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) psychological paradigm, which is a standard psychology experiment paradigm, so that the TSST is used in this study of the theory of traditional Chinese medicine to investigate the regulation of liver on psychological stress from the perspective of emotion regulation.Objective:1. To research the characteristics of healthy people in different status2. To explore the peripheral mechanism of regulating the emotional state through the function of " conveyance and dispersion of the liver " under the stress reactionMethods:1. The screening of the physiological state in eighty-four healthy female college studentsFemale college students with physical and mental health were recruited and selected, and the questionnaire and physical examination were undertaken, including EPQ-RSC, BAI, BDI, POMS, health status questionnaire designed by the research group, and physiological indexes. Physical examination items included general examination, blood routine, ECG, liver and renal function, blood glucose, blood lipid, and hepatitis B virus surface antigen, electrocardiogram, abdominal ultrasound, uterine and accessories ultrasound. No significant anxiety or depression was required, no significant physical illness, no significant life events within 3 months. Data were recorded using Excel table and project platform, and analyzed by SPSS 20.02. Trier Social Stress Test (TSST)The subjects are requested to undertake a 5 minute speech and 5 minutes of mental arithmetic in the follicular phase (1-3 days after menstruation) or luteal phase (1-3 days before menstruation). The saliva are requested to be collected and some indexes are tested on some of point in rest stage before the task, preparation stage and completion stage after the task of Omin, 10min,25min,40min,70min, including saliva GC, the detection of saturation of blood oxygen, physiological index, pulse data, pulmonary function, subjective stress, and filling in the PAD scale. SPSS 20.0 are used for statistical analysis.Results:1. The screening of the physiological state in eighty-four healthy female college studentsA total of 206 cases of selected subjects, qualified into the group of 84 cases. The participants were 18-28 years old, the average age was 22.042.37 years old. The median score of BAI and BDI were 29 and 8 respectively in the whole. Friendly, clear headed, helpfulness, compassionate and so on were included in emotional items with higher scores while depression-frustration, anger-hostility, energetic-hyperactivity were included in emotional factor with higher scores. High frequency somatic manifestations included dry mouth, chills, appetite, dreams and others. Some subjects showed low neural and depression meanwhile some subjects showed contrary, nervous score less than 5 points and BDI score less than 6 points of them were low level(Group A), others were high level(Group B). The scores of nervous and depression in Group B were significantly higher than that in Group A, but the scores of introversion and extroversion in Group B were significantly lower than that in Group A. In Group B, anxiety, depression and tension emerged more than Group A and the scores of negative emotion factors were higher in Group B. Somatic discomfort appeared more frequently in Group B, especially the typical manifestation of liver qi deficiency such as sighing, eye astringent and so on.Physical examination revealed that body weight, BMI, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, TC, LDL-C, ALT and BUN are higher in Group B.2. Trier Social Stress Test (TSST)The difference of tension reported by the subjects before and after the task of TSST is significantly, and Group A was slightly higher. The difference of tension reported by the subjects before and after the task of TSST is significantly, and Group A was slightly higher. P pleasure, A activation and D dominance of Group B in luteal phase had significant changes. P pleasure and D dominance of Group A is higher, and A activation of Group B is higher. The contents of saliva GC were significantly fluctuated in Group B, and it’s higher in follicular phase. The contents of saliva GC of Group B reach peak value late in luteal phase, but it’s earlier in follicular phase. The heart rate of each Group was close, but the indexes related to heart rate variability such as HRV, SDNN, rMSSD and BVP is higher in Group B in follicular phase. The parameter of pulse such as H2, H3, H4, T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, Wl, W2 and Ass is higher in all subjects in follicular phase. In luteal phase H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, T1, T3 and T4 is higher in Group B, and in follicular phase T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, W1, W2 and Ad is higher in Group B. The SPO2 were significantly fluctuated in Group B before and after the task of TSST. The indexes of lung function such as VC, TV, ERV, PEF, FEF25, ATI and FET is higher in all subjects in luteal phase. In luteal phase VC and IRV is higher in Group B, and in follicular phase VC, IC, TV, ERV, IRV, FVC, FEV0.5, FEV3.0, PEF, FEF25 and FEF50 is higher in Group B.Conclusion:Health status of healthy population is different, People in the condition of nervousness and depression with high level showed more anxious and depression, made the emotion of nervousness, depression and anxiety more obvious and felt more somatic discomfort such as sighing, throat discomfort, eye soreness, epigastric discomfort, belonging to liver qi deficiency state population. People felt tension subjectively under the psychological stress when the function of "conveyance and dispersion of the liver" was well while people felt anxiety and depression when it was bad. People in the condition of liver qi deficiency are in higher stress. Their circulation of Qi and blood are effected more, and the function of HPA and the parasympathetic nervous system activitiy are stronger. The activity of sympathetic nervous system enhanced in respiratory function, blood vessel contraction and sweating, and the activity of parasympathetic nervous system enhanced in the heart rate variability and the sweating before menstruation. The control of emotions of the liver controlling dispersion is related to the regulation of HPA, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
