The obvious heterosis was shown in eggplant(Solanum melongena L.). Production of hybrid seeds using male-sterility as female parent was a very important way in application of eggplant heterosis. Eggplant male sterile lines and maintainer lines were obtained by interspecific hybridization between S.melongena L. and S.integrifolium, among them some plants in male sterile lines were with parthenogenetic ability. In order to the use of the male-sterility quickly, enriching the basic theories of male-sterility,we used the eggplant male sterile lines and their maintainers as materials, to analyze the physilolgical and biochemical characteristics and parthenocarpy by investigation of energy, substance and polyamine metabolism. The main results as follows:1 The lack of IAA and GA3 led to slowly grow in male sterile line during seedling stage.The abundant with ZR and the imbalance of ABA/(IAA+ZR+GA3) also easily caused the slow growth.The low temperature and weak ray led to the content of ploy amine,especially Put and Spm increases,thus the cells of leaves avoided being damaged.2 There was different Pn in different developing stage.The Pn showed this current:seedling stage < blooming stage < fruiting stage in male sterile line,but in the maintainer line,seedling stage < fruiting stage blooming stage < blooming stage. The curves of diurnal variation of Pn in leaves of male sterile line and its maintainers showed two peaks.appeared "Wu Xiu" phenomenon,but there were differences on time and degree.The light saturation point of Pn in male sterile line was higher than the maintainer line during the vegetal stage and the reproductive growing stage.The light compensation point of Pn in male sterile line was higher than the maintainer line during the seedling stage and the blooming stage,however,at the fruiting stage the male sterile line was higher than the maintainer line. It proved that the utilizing strong light ability of male sterile line was higher than its maintainer.3 In the seedling stage, chlorophyll content of maintainer lines was higher than that of male sterile lines. In the blooming stage, chlorophyll content of male sterile lines and maitainers were similar. In the fruiting stage, chlorophyll content of maintainer lines was lower than male sterile ones. So do the Pn. Therefore,chlorophyll content was the limiting factor in Pn of eggplant. The ratio of soluble suger content and free amino acid in eggplant was quite low at seedling stage, however, it increased at blooming stage and decreased at fruiting stage. The decreased ratio of male sterile lines was lower than maitainner lines in the fruiting stage.4 We analyzed the content of endogenous hormone from one day before flowering to five days after it of materials: the male sterile line with the ability of parthenocarpy (05-506) and its maintainer line (05-507),and without the ability of parthenocarpy(05-509) and its maintainer line (05-510).From one day before flowering to one day after it, the IAAn ABA and G4 content in pollinated and non-pollinated ovaries of 05-506 were higher than its maintainer lines(05-507). However, from one day before flowering to three days after it, the IAA and ZR content in pollinated and non-pollinated ovaries of 05-509 are higher than its maintainer lines(05-510). The ABA content in non-pollinated 05-509 was remarkably higher than its maintainers(05-510) from one day before flowering to five days after flowering.5 The content of water and protein in fruit were of no significant differences between the male sterile lines with the ability of parthenocarpy(05-506,05-511) and their maintainers(05-507,05-512),but the crude fibre content in male sterile lines were more than their maintainers.The soluble sugar content of 05-507 was higher than 05-506,however,the difference between 05-511 and 05-512 was not obvious.The vitamine P content of 05-507 was higher than that of 05-506,but the vitamine P content of 05-511 was higher than that of 05-512.
