In order to study elucidate the relationship between fertility development andendogenous hormones in thermo-photo-sensitive male sterile wheat line BNS, we take Leaves, young panicles and anthers from BNS fertile plants and sterile plants were selected asleaves, panicles and anthers as experimental materials in this study and they were collectedrespectively through the stage of pistil and stamen differentiation (I) to the trinuclear stage(VI). And the contents of auxin, abscisic acid and gibberellin in leaf, young panicle and antherfrom sterile and fertile lines were detected respectively using indirect ELISA methods. The results are as follows:(1) The IAA contents in sterile and sterile lines were33-95ng/g and57-112ng/grespectively through the development stages. The IAA contents in sterile line were lower thanthose in fertile line (P<0.05). Sterile plants auxin content in the leaves, young panicles, anthers are lower than the fertile plants. This shows that thermo-photo-sensitive male sterile wheatline BNS male sterility to some extent associated with growth hormone deficiency. As the sterile linedevelopment, the hormones changes were different from those in fertile line.(2) At pistil and stamen differentiation stage, the contents of IAA and GA in youngpanicle from sterile plants line were33.85ng/g and7.13ng/g and those from the fertile plantsline were50.55ng/g and11.84ng/g, respectively. The contents of the respective hormonesfrom different lines were difference was highly significant differences (P<0.01). The contentsof IAA and GA were lower in sterile plants, speculated that the reduction of the content ofIAA and GA is closely related to BNS abortion.(3) The contents of ABA in sterile line were48-129ng/g respectively in sterile line, andthose in fertile were77-132ng/g respectively in fertile line. The content of ABA in leaves issterile plants lower than fertile plants, but there’s no obvious rule in young panicle and anther,so we need in-depth study of the relationship between the ABA and the male sterility of BNS. Thecontents of ABA in sterile line displayed irregular changes compared with those in fertile line.(4) Through the development stages, the ratios of IAA/ABA, IAA/GA and ABA/GA insterile line were0.4-1.1、4.3-15and7-20respectively, and those in fertile were0.5-0.9、4.3-11.5and7.3-13respectively. Compared with those in fertile line, the ratios of hormones insterile line displayed more changeable and were be out of proportion through the developmental stages. The ratio between the three kinds of endogenous hormones in fertileplants BNS is basically the same, but significantly differences between sterile plants. These results indicated the IAA deficiency and unbalanced ratios of hormones might belead to male sterility, more specially, the decreased levels of IAA and GA in pistil and stamendifferentiation stage might promote the occurrence of male sterility in BNS.
