The genetic variation of the growth, form factors, and physiological characteristics of the 21-year-old test plantation of platycladus orientalis from 25 geographical provenances are analyzed in this article. The index analyzed are the height(H), diameter at breast high(DBH), the width of tree crown(WTC), conservation rate, the content of chlorophyll a, b and the total content of chlorophyll in leaves, photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, stomatic conductance and the concentration of CO2. These indexes which have significant variation are comprehensively analyzed to discover the internal genetic mechanisms. By contrasting these indexes of the test plantation at 21-year-old age with that at 8-and-10-year old age test plantation ,the variation scale changed with the age of these provenance. And this work provides the scientific theoratic basis for early selection and evaluation of geographical provenances of platycladus orientalis. The effort was also concentrated on the variation of the cones and seeds of the open-pollinated progeny of all the provenances in the provenance testing plantation and the feasibility of chang'ing the testing plantation into seed collection orchard was discussed. The results of variance analysis and multiple comparisons indicate that differences in all the characters exclude the width of tree crown, are significant at 0.05 level or 0.01 level. The correlation between timber volume growth and the four characters of the tree height, DBH, WTC(S-N) and photosynthesis rate of the 21-year-old reach very significant level, but the correlation between timber volume growth and the other characters such as the content of chlorophyll a, b and the total content of chlorophyll in leaves etc is not significant. therefore the provenances of platycladus orientalis can be selected on the basis of the tree height,DBH and net photosynthesis rate. For the characters that have significant variations, cluster analysis has been used to... |
