In order to provide the scientific basis for the Good Agricultural Practice(GAP) and establishing quality criteria of Sichuan Tiandong(Asparagus cochinchinensis (Lour. ) Merr. ),we test literature of Radix asparagi on its history of medicine,sourse of name.quality essess,process and the best producing area.Based on investigation of practicing history.enviroment and experience,Neijiang are believed to be the best producing area in Sichuan.According to the inspections by national authoritative department,the atmosphere.soil and water conditions of standard planting area all accord with national standards.Detailed morphological and histological study has been carried on cuticle, fabric,condition of stone-cells and calcium oxalate acicular crystals to contrast different areas Radix asparagi.We described and illustrated the histological structure and powder microscopic identification of the samples,especially sample from Neijiang.Water.ethanol-soluble extractive.total ash and acid-insoluble ash in more than twenty batches of Radix asparagi come from different areas .commodities,vegetal period and processing methods have been determined.The results showed that the water of Radix asparagi should be controled lower than limit of national standard.We suggest the total ash and acid-insoluble ash of Radix asparagi should be controlled to no more than 4% and 0.5 %.The tests of heavy metals and residual pesticides in Radix asparagi show that Cu,Cd,Hg,Pb and As ,as well as dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethane(DDT),benzene hexachloride(BHC),pentachloronitro benzene(PCNB) etc. accord with Standards of Green Importing and Exporting Medicinal Plants and Their Products".The regulatory effects of water soluble extracts, total polysaccharide and saponin of Radix Asparagi on anti-senility,anti-exitability and immune-modulation were studied. The results showed that water soluble extracts and total polysaccharide in Radix Asparagi can not only increase the weight of thymocytes and spleen of mice.but also enhance anti-exitability.High dose of water soluble extracts play role against senescence induced by D-Galactose.We use TLC to separate B-sitosterol amino acids (L-asparagine, arginine, leucine, threonine, valine) and Sarsasapogenin contained in Radix Asparagi as its qualitative identification. The total polysaccharide.saponin and Sarsasapogenin in Radix Asparagi were determined by spectrometry and TCL-scanning. We suggest the total polysaccharide and saponin of Radix asparagi should be controlled to no less than 7.42 % and 1.11%.To make out standard operating procedure of processing method.,we compare the affection of different heating ways,heating time.drying ways,skin or no-skin and integrated or slice.We compare the ethanol-soluble extractive and main compositions of different commodities.The results showed that it was no pertinence between size with commodities.There are sixteen pictures in the end of article,including of eight microscopic identifications,three TLC drawings and five composition-scanning pictures.
