| With the booming of Chinese economy in recent years, turfgrass has been playing a more and more important role in urban environment construction and other fields. However, as a developing country, China s turfgrass industry is still at the very beginning. Every year we have to import large amounts of turfgrass seeds to meet the increasingly expanding needs as a result of our low productivity of turfgrass seed. In order to avoid great loss from inadaptation of large amounts of introduced turfgrass to the new bioclimate in Changsha, relevant researches must be done before introduction.In general, Hunan province is a typically underdeveloped area of China inturfgrass industry, but Changsha city, as the capital of Hunan, gains a boom in it nowowing to the rapid development of its economy recently. Aiming to provide atheoretical and practical basis for choosing turfgrass seeds in Changsha city, from 9genera we introduced 56 different varieties of foreign turfgrass, in which 48 varietiesbelong to 6 cool season turfgrass species and 8 varieties belong to 3 warm seasonturfgrass species. We made researches on evaluation of adaptabilities of all theintroduced turfgrass in Changsha in the past 3 years based on different standards ofboth sporting use and viewing use. The results showed that 27 varieties of 4 coolseason turfgrass species, namely, Festuca arundinaces cv. Crossfire2, F. arundinacescv. Houndog5, F. arundinaces cv. Fine lawn, F. arundinaces cv. Vegas, F. arundinacescv. Amigo, F. arundinaces cv. Safari, F. arundinaces cv. Mustang II, F. arundinaces cv.Shortstop2, F. arundinaces cv. Water Saver, F. arundinaces cv. Mic 18, F. arundinaces cv.Southeast, F. arundinaces cv. TripleA, Poa pratensis cv. Impack, P. pratensis cv.Kenblue, P. pratensis cv. Park, P. pratensis cv. Blue Knight, P. pratensis cv.Washington, P. pratensis cv. Alpint, P. pratensis cv. Merit, folium perenne cv. 1 ranstar, L. perenne cv. Eminent, L. perenne cv. Lowgrow. L. perenne cv. Ph D, L perenne cv. Medalist Gold, L. perenne cv. Caddieshack, ? perenne cv. Top Gun, Agrostis stolonifera cv. L5, were suitable for playground lawn; and 7 varieties or species of 2 warm season turfgrass genera, namely, Zoysia tenuifolia Willd. ex Trin., Z. matrella (L.) Merr., Z. sinica Hance., Cynodon dactylon cv. Common, Cynodon dactylon cv. Sun city, Cynodon dactylon cv. Bermuda, Tirway-419(Cynodon dactylon X C. transvadlensis), are especially excellent for playground lawn, but respectively have different yellow-leaf periods in winter.Moreover, we also succeeded in selecting 18 varieties of cool season turfgrassquite adaptable to Changsha climate and all year round virid which are the rightchoices for ornamental use. And they are Festuca arundinaces cv. Crossfire2, F.arundinaces cv, Houndog5, Poa pratensis cv. P. pratensis cv. Impack, Blue chip P.pratensis cv. Kenblue, P. pratensis cv. Park, P. pratensis cv. Blue Knight, P. pratensiscv. Washington, P. pratensis cv. Alpint, P. pratensis cv. Merit, Agrostis stolonifera cv.Regent, A. stolonifera cv. L5, A. stolonifera cv. Invader, Trifolium repens cv. Huia,Trifolium repens cv. Rivendel, TMfolium repens cv. Haifa, Trifolium repens cv.Common.As far as ornamental and enjoyment utilization is concerned, the green appearance is the most important factor for introduction and selection, so we took the green period as the key weighted coefficient while we conducted this experiment. Of all warm-season varieties of turfgrass, the gramineous warm-season turfgrasses have a absolute yellow-leaf period, which means they are not suitable for ornamental and enjoyment utilization in Changsha city, while Dichondra micranthus Urban, belonging to Convolvulaceae, is the only suitable variety of warm-season turfgrass for ornamental and enjoyment utilization because it can almost keep evergreen.This thesis also made researches on construction and management of turf under the particular conditions of soil and climate in Changsha city.
