On the basis of common databases in the Internet, we have found the pig-special molecular biology databases by using filter programs compiled by us. Meanwhile, the databases of Chinese indigenous pig breeds have also been founded. Some primary applications of the databases have already been done, including NSES (Nucleotide Sequences Extension System in silico), local BLAST alignment system based on Web and protein structure prediction and so forth. These measurements would benefit for the foundation of bioinformatics platform of pig. The detail information is as follows:1. Many molecular biology databases of pig have already been founded. The important ones are EST and HTGS database. The records of EST database have beyond 10,000.2. Nucleotide Sequences Extension System in silico (NSES) has been founded. It can effectively and promptly extend the cDNA sequence by using pig-special databases, and the results have shown that they are identical with the results of RACE.3. The local BLAST alignment system based on Web has many excellent features. The style of retrieve, parameters selection and the pattern of results are the same as NCBI's ones. This would be good for communications.4. The databases of Chinese indigenous breeds include breeds of pig, horse, bovine, sheep, goat and poultry. The contents of databases involve their exterior, color and typical characters among 200 breeds. The databases would provide some useful information to utilization and protection of Chinese breeds.5. Human reference database includes annotation database and protein structure motif database. These two databases are indispensable for comparative biology in pig breeds; the protein motif information database would make the researches of DNA advanced.6. Bioinformatics' platform of pig can research genes and their associate features, can simulate protein there-dimension structure as well. The beautiful output images are easy for educational use and complicated researches.7. Website is a tool of communications, meanwhile, is a platform to update these databases.
