Some experiments were carried out to pick and choose appropriate stock & soil temperature of watermelon root-cutting grafting, probe into physiological characteristics of root-cutting grafted seedling, and find out the effect of root-cutting grafting on the production , quality and flavor of watermelon.1. Investigating the survival ratio , root system condition, scioa height, stem diameter , development of leaves, accumulation of dry matters , ratio of root and conora of seedling and robust seedling index of Jingxin I scion grafted seedling with Jingxin stock I, Nanzhen stock I,Gangqiang I and Gangqiang II being stocks. The results could be concluded as follows: According to the stocks, the comparing result of grafted seedling on survival ratio was Jingxin stock I>Nanzhen stock I>Gangqiang II >Gangqiang I. The influences of various stocks on plant height,and stem diameter of grafted seedling were different. Jingxin stock I increased the stem diaaieter of grafted seedling and Nanzhen stock I improved the plant height. The growth of plant height and stem diameter was relatively slow for Gangqiang I and Gangqiang grafted seedlings, The robust seedling index of Jingxin stock I was higher than that of Nanzhen stock I,Gangqiang I and Gangqiang by. 16%, 28% and 19% respectively. The ratio of root and conora of grafted seedling was compared and the result was as follows: Nanzhen stock I >Jingxin stock I= Gangqiang I>Gangqiang .From the above results, we could safety conclude that Jingxin stock I was the best rootstock for Jingxin I. Moreover, the seedling age of root-cutting grafted seedling could be shortened to 25 days.2.The characteristics of grafted seedlings were studied under various soil temperatures. The result was shown that 21 soil temperature was optimum for grafted seedling to survive. Then the soil temperature was adjusted to 17 which has been helpful to strengthen the seedling. When the soil temperature was 21 ,the physiological activity of grafted seedling was strong, its metabolism was vigorous and also the development of leaves was rapid. The height of scion was related to the soil temperature and y=-l.6032+0.3809x,r=0.950 was the regression equation with remarkable relativity. The number of leaves was positively related to the soil temperature and the regressionequation was y=0.5840+0.1411x, r2=0.9776. The area of leaf was remarkably related to root temperature and the regression equation was y=-43.7294+0.1430x, r2=0.97388. The seedling quality comparing result under different soil temperatures according to the robust seedling index was 17 , 21 , 14 , 25 ; The quality of Jingxin stock I root-cutting grafted seedling was significantly better than root non-pruning grafted seedling. The robust seedling index, ratio of root and conora of seedling, G value of root-cutting grafted seedling were remarkably higher than that of the comparing group. The physiological index test showed that the activity of root-cutting grafted seedling was higher in17 -21 than in 14 and in 25 as well, the activity of root-cutting grafted seedling was higher than root non-cutting grafted seedling. The proline content in 21 was higher than that in other temperatures and the proline content of root-cutting grafted seedling was higher than that of root non-cutting grafted seedling. The content of Malondialdehyde was lower in 21 than in other temperature and also lower than that of root non-cutting grafted seedling. The activity of ADH.E in 21 was higher than that in other temperature and higher than that of root non-cutting grafted seedling.3.The study result also were shown us that the adoption period of root-cutting grafted seedling was nearly equal to that of root non-cutting grafted seedling and was shorter than that of own root seedling by 3-5days. We coulld clearly see from the test results on production , quality and flavor of watermelon that the production of root-cutting grafted seedling was higher than that of root non-cutting grafted seedling and that of own root seedling.
