| It is the whole mankind's common bright hope to realize sustainable development At mankind scientific and technological levels raising constantly, and creating and accumulating the enormous wealth, the ecological environment receives enormous destruction. The subject of sustainable development which promotes actively that a economy, society, environment coordinate each other, not only meets contemporary people's demands, but also not to endanger the demands of later generation, has become the greater subject to mankind. After the United Nations' conference on environment and development in 1992, China's Agenda 21 was drafted by the Chinese Government, which as one of the key documents to guide the country's long-term plan of making national economy and social development.The forest is a cradle of the human civilization, is the important natural resources that the human society progressed. The forest also has important strategic meanings to the sustainable development of social and economy. In order to realize the sustainable development strategy, sustainable forest management has becoming an attention issue. Under the guidance of the theory of sustainable forest management, the forestry action plan for China's Agenda 21 was worded out by the original Ministry of Forestry, which has put forward the frame goal of development of Chinese forestry in the national Ninth Five Year Plan and Plan for the year up to 2010, and has proposed the request of constructing the evaluation system for forestry sustainable development.Formulation of criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management is the basis for constructing the evaluation system for forestry sustainable development, and the essential assurance of realizing forestry sustainable development. Because of this kind of common understanding, at present, more than 150 countries and international organizations are studying the criteria and indicator for forest sustainable management in the whole world, and more than 30 countries have developed actively experimental demonstration sites for sustainable forest management.In China, formulation of criteria and indicator for sustainable forest management is going on actively, and has some substantive progress. Since 1995, under the leadership of original Ministry of Forestry, the Sustainable Forestry Research Center which is established at the Chinese Academy of Forestry organizes relevant experts researched and drafted the Criteria and Indicators for the Conservation and Sustainable Forest Management of China. The coverage of criteria and indicators of the regional level of our country is made out according to ecological and geographical area as the unit. At present, the experimental site have been set up in Jiangxi, Gansu and Heilongjiang separately, to formulate and test the criteria and indicators of national and regional level. There is lack of the criteria and indicators of the forest management unit level in some study reports at present.The forest zone of middle subtropical of Fujian is the main commercial forest base of Fujian. It is the collective forest zone of the southern model of our country too. The forest resources are abundant in this district, and the management style is various. There is very important position during the forestry production in Fujian or even the whole country. The state-owned farm and state-owned forest nurseries is main the forest manage grass-roots unit in this district field, But how about the current situation of these units? Until now, there is still lack the research of appraising index of sustainable forest management about forest management unit level in this zone.The study status quo of the relevant sustainable forest management index at home and abroad is analyzed and summarized at first.
