Auxins are phytohormones. Numerous researches show that they are involved in a great number of diverse plant抯 growth and development phenomena. There has been relatively little research on auxins in seaweeds. Moreover, in none of these article has systematically reported the methods of extraction and purification aux ins in seaweeds, the articles on how to estimate auxins in seaweed are in shortage too. A course of experiments have been carried out in the second part of this thesis on every key step of the procedure for extraction and purification of auxins in seaweeds in order to find a more simple, effective one. Several experiments have been also carried out in order to find the suitable method to estimate the auxins. In the third part of the thesis, the purified auxins extracts of 16 species of seaweeds were estimated by wheat coleoptile test and indole- a -pyrone fluorescence method. Based on the results of the latter method, we find that about 1. 1?6.9 ng IAA locates in per gram fresh seaweed. It was also demonstrated that the amount of IAA in green algae is the highest, in red algae is lower and in brown algae is the lowest. Among the 16 species of seaweeds, chorda filum has the highest amount of auxins. TLC has been used to analyze the content of seaweed auxins. The results showed the possibility of some other auxins excluding IAA locate in Lczminaria japonica, Grateloupia fihicina and Corallinapiluljfera.
