Nowadays, car bomb becomes increasingly popular in terrorist attacks. Bollards can be set around the important buildings to enlarge the distance between the point of explosion and the crucial buildings so as to reduce explosive hazards. The bollards in this paper are designed by Singapore's K & C company. The main research works are summarized as follows:(1) According to the U.S. standard SD-STD-02.01 A, the bollards system is under real vehicle collision test to evaluate the performance and level of the anti-ram bollards in Hunan University's new test base, which is for real vehicle collision test. The maximum impact force and average impact force are obtained by analyzing experimental data. The results show that the maximum impact force is roughly twice the average impact force. Based on the truck-bollards continuous system, the average impact force is investigated and the largest concrete fence collision impact force is also calculated, which are compared with test results. And the design of the bollards is discussed in this paper.(2) The single column in bollards system shows a good carrying capacity in the static monotonous loading test and the horizontal force is gained corresponding to the same diaplacement as the test. Force-displacement curve used to analyse the loss of the collision energy is also obtained.(3) Numerical simulation in LS-DYNA is conducted on collision test with detailed description of the bollards and truck finite element model. The results from simulation are compared and analyzed with test results, which show that simulation results such as overall deformation, impact force and stress distribution are consistent with test results, though the final top displacement of the bollards is larger than the experimental one due to highly strengthened truck model. Nevertheless, the penetration distance from simulation results is still less than lm, which indicate that the bollards system satisfy the K4 level requirements. Finally, according to the performances of bollards system in the test and simulation, some suggestions are provided.
