Research Of Public Space Design Of The Creative Industrial Center In The Post-industry Landscape

Accompanied with the development of modern city plus the industry restructuring, more and more retainable post-industrial buildings are left unused; according to these reasons,novel functions are explored for the coming days. Meanwhile, creative industry is a new-borned industry style, and the creative industry center which is accompanying with the development of the new-borned industry. It just starts to expand which is forming a undetected direction for post-industrial buildings. As a part of the creative industry center,public space is one of the most characteristic spaces. However, since the foundation of the new functions is based on initial physical form of cities and the spacial form of post-industrial buildings,specialty is inevitable. Furthermore, the present quest would benefit the extension of public space, draw out original post-industrial landscape and running the industrial civilization except for the meaning of creative industry. Based on these background, Shanghai Creative Industry Center is studied in this paper as a typical example in this field with other eight related developing cases, for exploring and analyzing the formation and properties of these special forms of the public space of the creative industrial center in the post-industry landscape;in addition, design methods are also discussed.Following the idea of question-brought, question-analyzing, question-solving, the frame of the thesis is composed by five parts.The first chapter talks about the reason of the subject, related background, the aim and meaning of the paper; discusses the research scale; and builds the study methodology and framework as the general argumentation.Chapter two studies the research range and the standard for cases selection; besides, all the cases are collated sort briefly for the theme. All these work is based on the concepts study of post-industrial landscape, public space,creative industry and typical Shanghai Creative Industry Center. Among that, combination of Shanghai's creative industry and the post-industrial buildings'state is also discussed.In the third chapter, through the investigation of eight developed cases, they are sorted by main functions to generalize their defects based on the above information.Meanwhile,based on the analysis of the character of the landscape and culture,the elements of the public space,the space mode, the space gradation and scale, they are the common special characters and problems are concluded for modified post-industrial buildings in creative industry center.Chapter four summarizes the investigation of chapter three and brings the main control methods and design principles for this type of public space.This chapter also discusses the design methods for the public space design of the Creative Industrial Center in the Post-Industry Landscape based on the principles.The final chapter summarizes the whole paper and raises the future research directions as the conclusion of this study work.
