Renewal Of Block Interface Base On The Urban Collective Memory

Every city contains its own memory, which is the basic clue the citizens understand themselves and their living environments transformation in the factor of time. However, in the process of the reform and renewal of the city executed by people, the destruction and loss of the city memory make the city have no longer to be the familiar hometown like before. To avoid distorting and cutting the city's history, keep the unity and integrity of the city, and shape the city s special spirit,the research to the city in a sociology view may be a scientific method.Collective memory and the construction of the block interface are similar, on the one hand, they are the save and stimulate of the past information, and on the other hand, they experience the conversion process unconsciously in the reality. This feature make the city develop continuously, keeping the eternal vitality. It enlighten the designers turn from the mere imitative copy to the exploration of the regional culture, from the study of the style of the city beauty to the attention of the internal spirit, from the ideal of modern functionalism to the psychological identity of the city groups.This paper tries to study a method of reshaping the city block interface based on the collective memory of the city. Five evaluation criteria and five construction methods of reshaping the city block interface are suggested, which concern the unity, the continuity, the regions, the present, and the timing; Case studies are presented from the view of the isomorphic relationship between the form development of city and the collective memory; Efforts are made to get a new understanding and catalogue of the methodology in urban design, the protection and renewal of the block space, from a new view of the city historic continuity and development.This paper includes more than 70000 words, and 87 pictures.
