From 1970's to 1990's, it is a trend throughout the whole world that the governments redevelop the waterfront by taking environment advantage. From 1980's till today, the Westen countries have also accumulated certain research result in the planning and design of waterfront.Recently, redevelopment of waterfront is also spread out in many areas in our ountries. Difference of being redeveloped background with developed Western countries, most of the waters of these area have been contaminate and the ecological environment is polluted badly. Comparatively, the major objective of the development is to abtain a better investing environment and have nicer public open spaces in the waterfront, so that it can stimulate the devolopment of the cities. But compared with developed Western countries by judging from the reforming achievement there still have something to improve, We can make progress if we draw west ripe experience and absorb the lesson of them.The relevance studying research about planning and design of waterfront and public open space opening has provided important reference to this paper. The paper will use those relevance principles and further study the representative cases of different period at home and abroad, then anlysis the characteristics of the pubilc open sapce in the waterfront. And some site investigation and the questionnaires were been made, and influences factors are expected to find on the analyse the pubilc open space.
