Research On The Post-Games Development And Utilization Of Sydney Olypic Park

The post-Games development and utilization of Olympic Park has always been a difficult problem for the host city of the Olympic Games. It is not only the utilization of a single venue, but also an issue of regional development. The Olympic Park could be a driving force for urban development if the planning and utilization is reasonable, or it will become a "burden". Sydney Olympic Games was praised by the then IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch as "the best term", yet it still unable to avoid the "valley effect" after the Games. The Olympic Park of broad area and huge investment had once in a state of serious loss-making after the Games. In 2004, after the sale of the main stadium's naming rights and the introduction of professional leagues, the Park's operating conditions started to improve, and then gradually on the right track. In this paper, research is conducted on the post-Games development and utilization of Sydney Olympic Park. By reviewing and analyzing their problems and successful experiences, to provide the reference for the Olympic host city on the post-Games planning and use of Olympic Park.In this study, by the method of documentary data, expert interviews and logical analysis, from the angel of planning and construction, management system, resource development, operating projects, benefit analysis, functional layout, to analyze and discuss the post-Games development and utilization of Sydney Olympic Park, and got the conclusions as follows:1. The management system of the Park is the government-enterprise integration mode, co-managed by New South Wales Government, Park Authority and the owners. The PPP (Public Private Partnership) model is adopted by the main stadium, the main arena and the Olympic village on the construction and operation.2. Sydney Olympic Park focuses on the development and utilization of multi-purpose stadiums. It has established a diversified industrial development model consist of sports, entertainment, culture, leisure, science, education, commerce and tourism.3. Sydney Olympic Park carried out the functional layout according to the characteristics and function of each region. The park land has become a base for the city's ecological environment protection, a site for environmental education and scientific research development, a place for leisure and travel. Newington Armory has become the park's art center. Central area has been divided into nine functional areas according to the venue distribution, location characteristics and the development orientation of the Park.The operating efficiency of Sydney Olympic Park is currently improving gradually, and the dependence on government has reduced, but not yet on balance.5. Sydney Olympic Park focuses on economic, social, and environmental sustainability, and put emphasis on both economic development and social benefits.6. The over-concentrated layout of venues and the initial half-baked preparations led to the heavy losses and operation difficulties of the Sydney Olympic Park after the Games.
