Switched reluctance motor (SRM) has simple and rugged construction because there are no windings or permanent-magnets on rotor; there are many controlled parameters to adjust speed. So it is suitable for applications to high or super-high speed operation. There are notable edge and local saturation in the actual operating process due to the doubly salient pole structure. Though SRM has simple construction, there are many technical problems in the field of the structure designing and the realization of the driving and controlling systems. The calculation of magnetizing curve is the key step of analytical methods. There are some computational formulas for low-speed motors with multi-poles, which are not suitable for high or super-high-speed motors with few poles. This paper proposes the magnetizing curve formulas of high-speed 4/2 SRM in three important positions based on the formulas of 8/6 SRM. The proposed method is verified through results of FEM.At the same time, a new torque verification method is used to overcome the shortcoming of the existing methods for high speed SRM. It is validated by a prototype of SRM with 4/2 poles. The rotor structure of prototype is optimized for the purpose of improving its starting performance. Designing and checking software packages of super-high-speed SRM have been worked out based on MATLAB-GUI. The GUI transforms the multiply variable and formulas to simple understanding and convenient operating graphical user interface. This paper makes a systematic analysis on SRM by using JMAG model and makes the hybrid simulation of JMAG and SIMULINK. The model is simple understanding and more accurate with considering nonlinear magnetic filed. People can get output waveforms from MATLAB and data of electromagnetic field from JMAG. It requires the computer with high calculate speed and sufficient memory.
