The Significance Of Masonry

The masonry that bristles in Zhejiang rural constructions is specificity and diversified. In countryside we often see houses showing the original beauty of masonry without any awareness of design-that is to say the builders of these houses are able to demonstrate the essence of beauty as bricoleurs. This phenomenon is appealing to me because this is virtually impossible for those who have been trained uniformly in colleges to be architects. Thus, this essay is a study that probes into the specificity of masonry constructions in Zhejiang province. It also attempts to compile a dictionary on masonry terms and completes several creative experiments about the constructional accordance in a sense of design to exhibit the meaning of masonry in a conditional way and to achieve a maximum of similarity between man-made constructions and their naturally-built counterparts.
