Reactive power balance is very important in improving the economic efficiency and quality of power supply of the whole power system, the network structure becomes more and more complex, along with the voltage grade being higher and higher, the reactive power compensation equipment being used has become increasingly difficult to meet the requirements of the system, because of its shortcomings. A kind of dynamic reactive power compensation device, based on Magnetic Valve Controllable Reactor, which can produce controlled reactive power from capacitive to inductive, with very good advantages such as lower harmonics and cost, simple to manufacture, has very good prospect in the future because it is suitable for the development of the power system.By using DC current to control the saturation of iron core, the MVCR can give a smooth continuous capacity; it combines operating winding with controlling winding organically, and without external excitation, helping reduce the loss and simplify structure;it has smaller harmonic and approximately linear current-voltage characteristics. Both the structure and operating principle of the MVCR are analyzed in detail, and equivalent circuit is also derived, the paper gives a detailed analysis of the instantaneous reactive power theory which has a wide range of application in dynamic reactive power compensation, using more precise reactive current detection method based on this theory, using a high-performance DSP chip(TMS320F2812) as the control section of the compensation device, regarding the DSP's fast and powerful computing features, according to the needs of the measurement and control, designing the hardware circuit in order to make the MCR follow the change of the system reactive power accurately, realizing the system dynamic real-time reactive power compensation purpose.At last, the thesis studies the MCR through MATLAB simulations, researches the working,controlling voltage and current waveforms and also analyses the MVCR's current-voltage,control,and response characteristics, the result of the simulation is consistent with the theoretical analysis.
