The networking and intelligence development of power system has put forward higher requirements of integrated substation automation system, owing to the variety of smart devices with different network communication structure, its diversity has brought the question how to achieve interoperability and equipment compatibility. Based on the realization of reliable communication and communication compatibility, this paper has made deep research on the communication manager, which has been applied to substation automation system, and designed as well as researched the communication manager based on ARM7 andμcos embedded operating system. The communication manager, which is the core of substation, as the interface device between communications network and monitoring equipment, is used in receiving the control unit data and transmitting the data to SCADA or remote operating control center after the data has been processed. At the same time, the system can also transmit the command from SCADA or remote operating system control center to the lower protector. The design of the communication manager functions mainly as the key point, and can also finish processing data and transmitting communication protocol, in order to achieve the "four remote" function of the substation automation system.According to functional demands, this paper talks about the design and realization of communication manager based on ARM7 andμCOS-Ⅱembedded operating system in hardware and software respects. Hardware and software designs have adopted modular structure respectively, which have improved the system reliability and operability of the system. the hardware design has been accomplished through the ARM7 core board and peripheral equipment, which made design with high quality and low price. The module, which has been designed according to the application demands, includes many communication modules, HCI module and external expansion module etc. The software part of the system has analyzedμCOS embedded operating system and operating principle of the core. It has also transplantedμCOS embedded operating system into ARM7 processor successfully. Based on the idea of modular structure, this part has been programmed by C language with clarity and popularity, and it is easy to be developed and expanded.The project finished building the ARM7 hardware platform and debugging the software of the communication manager. The test of the communication manager results show that the system software and the function modules proved in good working. Communication manager realized the reliable communication and transmit communication protocol, the design has achieved desired effect for the LED showed real-time data correctly.
