With the expanding scale of power grid and the proposed of IEC61850, the degree ofSubstation automation becomes more and more high. The communication manager is acollection center of the substation information, it is a very important part in the substationautomation system because it is in charge of all protection, monitoring and controldevices’ information collection and transmit command information; In recent years,Embedded real-time operating system was used on the communication manager widely forits high reliability and real-time to meet it’s performance needs. In this paper, the majorwork is developing a communication manager based on embedded real-time multitaskingoperating system μC/OS-Ⅱ which can realize many kinds of communication protocol. This paper analysis the performance of the communication needs based on reading alot of home and abroad reference, then proposed a design of communication managerbased on embedded real-time multitasking operating systemμC/OS-Ⅱ, and give thehardware architecture of the device and the software design process. In hardware circuitdesign, we choose STM32f103zet6as CPU of the communication manager, Designed andcompleted four serial ports and2Ethernet interfaces to meet the communication managerof the rich communication interface requirements. In software development, transplantedthe embedded real-time multitasking operating system μC/OS-Ⅱ based on ARM, thendesigned a multi-task communication program to test the operating systemμC/OS-Ⅱ, theresults show that the transplanting is successful and verify the μC/OS-Ⅱ real-time andmulti-tasking features. In this paper, developed serial devices and Ethernet driver based onstudied theμC/OS-Ⅱ under serial port, Ethernet port communication, achieve multipleserial and Ethernet devices to send and receive data functions. At the same time, the paperachieved that the serial port, Ethernet interface for MODBUS and IEC60870-5-103communication protocols are able to communicate properly.
