China's vast land area ranks third in the world. She has not only the long coastline but also lush inland water transport. However, China is located in an earthquake zone between Asia and Europe, so the ports along the coast are also at the earthquake-prone belt. From ancient times, China has suffered from earthquake for a long time, there Yuhai recent earthquake and the Wenchuan earthquake gave us convincing examples. The earthquakes not only lead people's death but also returned to society a huge economic losses. Therefore, not only to save human lives but also to protect the social and economy, seismic research has grate significance.Seismic theory has been studied through a hundred years of development and evolution, evolved from static theory to dynamic theory. It has in-depth study and understanding in China and other nations. However, seismic theory on the cranes working heavily along the coast for taking thousands of cargo transport mission is extremely small.In recent years, with the rising shipbuilding technology, port handling equipment's technology and applications stand out. China's special geographical environment determines the port transport machinery suffering earthquake disaster inevitably. How to avoid structural damage for the cranes? It gives great significance in reconstruction and economic recovery. So, Seismic studies and earthquake research on cranes can brings benefits.This paper takes the container crane as the research object, using the finite element analysis software ANSYS, takes use of structural dynamics and earthquake dynamics to carry out such studies as follow:1) A detailed description about two widely used engineering analysis of the seismic response:response spectrum method,time-history analysis method;2) the establishment of the finite element dynamic model about an quayside container crane (without vibration damper systems and with vibration damper systems);3) Kinetic analysis of modal analysis for the container crane, because it is the basis of any other dynamic analysis, such as spectrum analysis,time-history analysis; 4) According to the seismic code, make response spectrum analysis to the model in accordance with 7 degrees of seismic fortification standard;5) According to the seismic code, make dynamic analysis to the model in accordance with 7 degrees of seismic fortification standard;6) The seismic analysis is inevitable to take into account the damping in the earthquake study. This paper ascertains the parameters of vibration dampers to make time-history analysis method;7) to explore the deficiencies in this article, and then give some suggestions on the basis of my study.
