The speed is one of the most significant factors in the traffic safety. It is researched that the speed is closely related to the traffic accidents and Speeding, at the same time, could also crucially harmed the transportation safety. Recently, while the road kilometers in the West Mountain District have been increased in a remarkable leap, the traffic accidents, especially accidents caused by speeding, which were caused by the variable condition of the climate and territory, the alignment index low valued, the insufficient consciousness in traffic management, happened so frequently and lead a great number of loss in casualties and properties.Considering the various qualities of drivers, defective ordinary road sign with inadequate persuasion and limited manning level, the Compulsive Speed Control Device represented by speed bumps has been applied in unprecedented large scale. However, a lot of problems, which emerged during the applying process for the related technical regulations lacking, do not influence the effects in the application but also waste the project fund with exerting bad social effect. Relying on the project of The Chongqing Transportation Commission, Research on the Speed Bumps application on mountain road in Chongqing, this thesis focused on the key problems in speed bumps application.According to widely researching on the current situations of the speed bumps applying domestically and internationally, this thesis introduce some successful experiences and conclude problems in speed bumps applying in mountain road. With reference to the categories dived internationally, this thesis varied the domestic speed bumps products systematically from structure, function, applicable conditions and laying style. It also tested and analyzed the running speed, vibration acceleration and vibration rumble of the car affected by all categories of speed bumps through proving ground test, at the same time, explored the laws of speed controlling of speed bumps.Meanwhile, based on the research findings and test results and combined with theory of operating speed, this thesis proposed a relatively systematic method for speed bumps designing and illustrated the whole process specifically, with the speed-limiting target value as the controls parameter and the related regulations in Human Factors Engineering as the evaluation criterion.Finally, it chose three categories speed bumps which were widely used in life to summarize and refine the key points on construction, and also introduce the occurring and preventing of the common faults of the speed bumps.
