The Research On Maximum Speed Of Urban Railways

In recent years, along with the rapid development of China's economy, the process of urbanization has being significantly speeding up, which brought great traffic pressure in the cities and surrounding areas. In such a situation, Urban Railways was introduced as an effective solution to the current traffic problems in cities. In the design of Urban Railways, to determine the maximum speed is an important and complex task, for the maximum speed always has an impact on the determination of the other design values and the choice of equipments. A reasonable maximum speed target may bring the best social and economic benefits; on the contrary, unreasonable one often leads to invalid configuration and waste of social resources.In this paper, we take the maximum speed of Urban Railways as research objective. First, the development of domestic Urban Railways is introduced to illustrate the importance and necessity of the subject. Then we define the concepts of Urban Railways, and discuss their relationship with the maximum speed. After the definition, an analysis is made in detail on the quantitative and qualitative impact on the maximum speed of the various factors in terms of passenger demand, technological conditions and social benefits. In the analyze, the concept of the Generalized Travel Time is employed to compare how the different maximum speed meets the needs of passengers; the Fuzzy Analysis Method is adopted to establish a mathematical model to determine the maximum speed, and quantify the impact on social benefits. Finally, example of Jinzhou Urban Railway is given, which proves the rationality of our theory.From the view point of the passengers, designing or operating units and the society, we conducted a comprehensive analysis on the maximum speed of urban railway. Result shows that the maximum speed of Urban Railways mainly determined by the operational and technical factors, and at the same time influenced by a combination of customer satisfaction and social factors. Accordingly, this paper proposes a system to determine the Urban Railways'maximum speed, and our method may provide a reference for the design of Urban Railways.
