With the endless development of urbanization, most infrastructures should build underground. But in order to facilitate the maintenance of facilities in the future, the only way is to set manholes in road to solve kinds of problems. Due to the different properties of materials between manhole and surrounding soil, it's hard for them to work together, and it will cause different settelment easily.Manhole all above ground, all sink into ground, one side above ground and the other side sink into ground. And such circumstance has an affect on automobile driving, car life, the smooth flow of traffic, the image of city, and economic of some departments in different level.Road and manholes are the target of this paper. Through change the soil modulus which is the main factor of settlement, to compute settlement of road, settlement of manhole with traffic loads on the center of manhole cover which with different friction between soil and borehole wall; with the traffic loads on one side of the center of borewall, and the soil under the manhole with diferrant soil modulus. Then analyze the settlement of road and manhole by diagram. Contrast the settlement of road and manhole, find the modulus range which the difference between road and manhole settlement is in the suitable region. And find the modulus range in which the manhole all above ground, all sink into ground, one side above ground and the other side sink into ground. For road settlement, using delamination summation-method to compute, because the road settlement influenced only by traffic load. By establishing mechanical model, using Ansys which is a kinds of finite element analysis software to compute the settlement of manhole influenced by the mechanical indexes of soil arround manhole, the mechanical indexes of soil under manhole, traffic load and friction between soil and borehole wall, then present the way to solve the problem.
