Ring-plate-type cycloid drive is a new kind of drive on the base of analyzing the advantages and the shortcomings of involute-gear ring-plate drive and traditional cycloid drive respectively, which has the merits of small volume, light weight, wide range of transmission ratio, high efficiency, transmission uniformly, simple structure, high load-capacity. It can be used on engineering widely. With increasing of high speed, over loading, light weight and transmission, dynamic performance is also need to increase. So, it is important to study dynamics capability. Dynamic nonlinear characteristics of a double crank four ring-plate-type cycloid reducer are studied in the paper.A nonlinear dynamic analysis model of the ring-plate-type cycloid reducer including the time-varying stiffness, backlash and transmission error is established by lumped parameter method. The nonlinear dynamic equations of Ring-plate-type cycloid drive system are deduced by the Lagrange principle, which have difficulties in solving the corresponding multi-degree-of-freedom nonlinear differential equations with Semi-definite, transformation parameters and translational-torsional coupling. By choosing one suitable coordination transform, a new set of uniform nonlinear differential equations of system are constructed in terms of matrices. Rigid body movement and nonlinear restoring force is eliminated which are just function of a single variable and is convenient to be solved.Multiple degrees of freedom nonlinear dynamic balance equations with backlash are deduced by harmonic balance method. Nonlinear frequency response characteristics of the system are obtained by Broyden. The influence of time-varying stiffness, errors and damping coefficient on the system dynamic characteristic is analyzed.The nonlinear dynamic characteristic of the system is also discussed., the nonlinear differential equations with multiple backlash are solved by variable step size RK integration method.The Nonharmonic response, Quasi-periodic Response, Chaotic Response under the condition of changing parameters of the system are discovered. The influence of backlash on the Ring-plate-type cycloid drive dynamic characteristics is investigated.
