Large thin-wall workpiece which is a typical component of aeronautics and astronautics manufacturing is the main structure type of shells and wings in aircrafts or rockets. It is assembled of skin, girders and angle steels with rivets through coordinate drilling. It requires high efficiency of assembly and precision of workpiece location due to great amount of rivets. The high automatic drilling and riveting machine is needed to accomplish this process instead of the traditional assembly methods.This thesis presents the background and the source of this subject. The topic selection is clarified which is based on the reviews of internal and external research and development situation of riveting and automatic drilling and riveting machine. The main research contents of this thesis are presented as follows:First, the overall scheme design of automatic drilling and riveting machine is discussed. The design is divided into three parts: drilling and riveting function module, automatic rivets feeding system and bracket according to the assembly process requirement. The overall layout structure design is finished according to the geometric shape, size and assembly request of this workpiece.Then the drilling and riveting function module is designed. The parameters of rivet are defined by riveting intensity. Both the drilling module and riveting module are designed according to the former parameters. It adopts hydraulic riveting method that the whole riveting hydraulic system parameters are completed. The finite element analysis of main stress components such as dynamic and static rivets and cantilever beam are finished as well as optimization strength design of weak links.An automatic rivet feeding system is designed which needs no artificial participation for riveting automatic transmission, location and pressure with the exception of a certain amount of rivets are needed to put in the chute manually in the initial position. The bracket of this automatic drilling and riveting machine is designed with pin gear transmission principle. The gear driving motor is selected as well as the bracket structure finite element analysis and optimization are finished according to the maximum stress state of this bracket on the basis of pin gear intensity. 3d modeling, virtual assembling, kinematics simulation of this automatic drilling and riveting machine are completed with Pro/E according to all the designing parameters in the process of all former three modules structure design in addition of optimization design according to the results of the finite element, intensity and deformation analysis of each key mechanical components with Pro/Mechanica.Finally, it presents the discussion and analysis of the problems and deficiencies during the design, check calculation and optimization analysis process of this automatic drilling and riveting machine including the outlook of this subject's further research.
