Study On The New Public Libraries' Characters And Architectural Design In Contemporary City

In the new era of time City Libraries have taken tremendous changes, the meaning of them compared with the traditional library has changed a lot too. Therefore researches of architectural characters and design of the new city library are necessary.The main contents of the thesis are divided into three parts: first, the analysis of the city libraries' changes under the influence of social factors; second, the analysis of city libraries' new characters which are causing by those changes; third, the analysis of new city libraries' architectural design which is dealing with the changes mentioned in the second part.Changes of Times will impact the buildings, while the architecture will counteract everybody's life. City Libraries are important public culture buildings, and therefore they are especially changing and being changed by our current life. The impacts from the times are presented in the three areas. First, the information attribute makes the city library closely linked to the development and change of information technology. Second, the rise of the public sectors of the urban population causing occurred in the use of library fundamental changes of the patrons. Third the changes of urban space make the library buildings becoming a node of network-based society. On the other hand, the city libraries would affect the social life. How the social factors impact the city Library and the architectural design should how to deal with these changes ? How the community needs to change, and how the new library will meet these changes? These questions are what this paper is studying on.The thesis presents the term "new city library" which refers to the new features of contemporary city libraries which are different from traditional public libraries. And they are summarized into three points: first, an informational media agency; second, a mass cultural consumption place; third, an urbanized public space. According to the three important characteristics, this thesis analyses some outstanding contemporary urban library projects. In the meanwhile of researching the library projects in advanced areas, this paper also focus on the analysis of the current new city libraries in China, through contrast of national and international examples, we will see the lacks of our country's public library which will helping improving our country's design level of urban public libraries.
