Nowadays there are many old substations still using traditional electromagnetic relay device, whose performance can no longer meet the operation requirements of power grid gradually. On the other hand, with the development of computer control technology, the microprocessor relay technology tends to be mature. By upgrading these old substations in need of the microprocessor protection, its performance can be substantially improved as to meet the power grid operation requirements.From the operation reality of 35kV Huzhuang substation of Zhongyuan Oil Field, this paper carried out further study aiming at the related application work of the microcomputer protection system in the electrical secondary transformation project of the 35kV Huzhuang substation, then expanded detailed discussion on its overall design plan and related technical issues in microcomputer protection system. This paper first finished the equipment selection of microcomputer protection system according to the practical on-site requirements of Huzhuang substation, and performed value setting by choosing related algorithm, on the basis of analyzing the principle characteristics of protection devices of the chosen line and main transformer. In addition, this paper conducted the construction design of comprehensive automation transformation for the original protection system in the substation.In this paper, the practical application issues of the microcomputer protection transformation were studied and discussed in detail with engineering reform practice, in order to improve and perfect the substation protection devices and the secondary circuit as well as other related applications, which provides a well exemplification for the field application of microcomputer relay protection system.
