Self-compacting concrete(SCC), which is a new kind of high performance concrete(HPC), can flow freely under its own weight during the placing process and flow through the gaps of reinforcement filling up the formwork, while it is cohesive enough to be handled without any segregation or bleeding. SCC in its fresh state is homogeneous and after hardened has excellent mechanical performance and durability.With the development of infrastructure construction and recognition of environment protection, existing natural sand can not meet the demand in engineering, so manufactured sand will the trend of development in future. The stone chips is the manufactured sand one kind and has the similar physical properties with natural sand and is of economic value, thus could be a fine substitute of natural sand. It is rich in China, so the way by which natural sand is substituted by stone chips in Self-compacting concrete can well solve the problem of the shortage of natural sand resources, and also produce apparent economic and social benefits.In view of lack of unified mix design criterion of SCC by stone chips in China, in this paper, the effects of water consumption, w/c, crushed stone amount used, amount of water reducing agent, powder amount of space occupied on the workability of SCC by stone chips are investigated according to orthogonal experiment .it shows that, water consumption is the the main factors that effects the mobility of SCC by stone chips mobility ; crushed stone amount used is the the main factors that effects the self-compacting ability and ability through crevice of SCC by stone chips; powder amount of space occupied is the the main factors that effects the ability to prevent the segregation; w/c is the the main factors that effects the strength of 28d . C40 SCC by stone chips which affected actual needs were compounded and its Performance is second level . it is determined that the optimum mix is water (180Kg/m3),cement (445Kg/ m3),stone chips (761 Kg/ m3),crushed stone (851 Kg/ m3),water reducing agent (3.6 Kg/ m3),Fly Ash(138 Kg/ m3).After that, this paper did the further research on mechanics, Volume stability and durability performance of the C40 SCC by stone chips, research shows that the SCC by stone chips has the same excellent performance as the SCC by natural sand .It may be used as references for t engineering application of the C40 SCC by stone chips.
