The power is essential to the life of the humans, but the power net is polluted when the people is using the power. In the daily life, many household appliances will pollute the power net. In industry, the harmonic is produced when the rectifier devices and the inverter equipments are used, and the harmonic will effect in the industrial production. In the electrolytic aluminum industry, the power is polluted when the AC change into the DC by the rectifier, and the polluted power will reduce the life of the generator. Because of the above reasons, it is very important to monitoring the power quality.To begin with, the paper indicates the existent problems for the SCADA system and the technology of power quality monitoring, including its actuality and development tendency, as well as the research content and significance. Secondly, the paper describes the national power quality standards, and summing up the calculation method which is about the power quality's parameter. Specially, the harmonic analysis method is introduced in the paper. And then, the virtual instrument technology which is an advanced technology in the measurement field is adopted. The paper is focus on the VI which was used and the concepts of the LabVIEW software. According to the national power quality standards, the power quality monitoring system has been designed by the LabVIEW8.2 software. The system could analyze and display the parameter of the harmonic analysis, the deviation of supply voltage and the deviation of frequency. Finally, the four-channel data acquisition system which is based on the Advantech PCI1712 data acquisition card is designed and completed, in order to provide the reliable real-time data.In the field of power quality monitoring, the use of PC-based virtual instrument technology and data acquisition card system can effectively collect voltage value, and conveniently analyze the power quality. The development of the entire system is short-cycle and cost-effective. It is an ideal way of come true the power quality monitoring system.
