To reduce the energy consumption of diesel engine and emissions of polluted gas, and then meet requirements of energy efficiency and regulation, the application and development of electronic control technology in diesel engine has become an indispensable link and one of the important development directions for diesel engine. In the 21st century diesel engine electronic control technology will enter the heyday of its development, and the modern control theory will strut its stuff on the basis of continuously strengthened hardware. The goal of applying electronic control is to improve the dynamic property and economy of the diesel engine. In addition, more emphasis is put on emissions control and the pursuit of security and comfort. From the 1980s, there are many research institutes and universities in china have been carrying out research and development of the diesel engine electronic control technology. After entering the 21st century, in order to keep our government's promise of contributing to the human sustainable development, it's an urgent affair for internal-combustion engine industry to energetically develop the diesel engine electronic control technology and accelerate the process of producing the electronically controlled diesel engine. This paper details the domestic and international diesel engine electronic control technologies, the environment pollution from emissions of vehicles and emissions standards at home and abroad, the principle of diesel combustion, electronically controlled fuel injection technology of diesel engine, and other electronic control systems of diesel engine. In this paper, electronically controlled fuel injection systems ranging from the first generation of location-controlled fuel injection system to the second generation of time-controlled fuel injection system and the third-generation of common rail fuel injection systems were introduced in detail. The controller, sensors, actuators classification, structure and theory were also introduced. In addition, the development of the diesel engine electronic control technology in the exhaust turbocharger with variable nozzle ring, variable intake swirl, variable intake and exhaust doors and exhaust recycling fields were discussed in detail.
