With development of railway heavyhaul transportation, to increase the axle load and the loading capacity of the single vehicle is of the key technical measurement to be taken among world heavy haul transportation countries. In USA, the axle load for about 65% railway freight wagons hits 29.8t, 32.43t axle load has been applied to many wagons, the axle load of some wagons reaches 35.7t; in Australia, the axle load for heavy haul transportation wagons has been enhanced to 35.7t, 40t axle load freight wagons gradually are used also; in Brazil, the axle load of the freight wagon is up to 30t; in South Africa, the axle load of the coal heavy haul freight wagon reaches 26t with narrow gauge, and that of the iron ore wagon is 30t. In Sweden, the axle load of heavy haul transportation has been changed from 25t previously into 30t now; while in Russia, 23.5t axle load has been popularly used for railway freight wagons, right now being increased to 27t, and 30t axle load bogie is under the way for development and design.This essay firstly presents the type, the structure feature and application of the heavy haul bogie for freight wagons in foreign countries, meanwhile, describes the design principle of the large axle load freight wagon bogie tailoring to the application condition of low speed and heavy haul focusing on the suspension system principle and the load bearing method, and forwards the technical orientation of 35.7t axle load freight wagon bogie for research and development; then illustrates the basic principle and the structure of 35.7t axle load freight wagon bogie. At last, the design optimization is introduced considering the structure parameters of 35.7t axle load freight wagon bogie so as to achieve the reliable design, the dynamic performance simulation under multiple cases and dynamic & static strength analysis of key parts were carried out as well with simulation approach of the reliable design on this bogie, finally design of 35.7t axle load freight wagon bogie was completed.The track dynamic test has proved that various index of the designed 35.7t axle load freight wagon bogie can satisfy the application requirement, also accumulate the experience of designing the large axle load bogie for China railways.The achievements as described in this essay are of great significance for enhancing the design level of large axle load freight wagon bogie in China. The actual service indicates that the bogie enjoys itself with stable performance, reliable parts, which is of the breakthrough for design of large axle load bogie in China.
