As a kind of linear (or reticular) artificial structure, highway is exposed in different natural environment. Highway is influenced by many relevant environmental factors, particularly influenced by the hydrographical factor which makes a great effect to highway location, highway construction, highway operation, highway maintenance and so on. Although hydrographical conditions are different because of the vast terra and complex nature in China, there is still some regional similarity in them. In order to establish the hydrographical evaluation that influences highway construction, it is very important for us to review and summary various methods for hydrological regionalization in ChinaIn this paper, national hydrological regionalization is studied, so is the relationship between highway and hydrograph. The principles, methods, system and nomenclature of hydrological regionalization for highway are all studied by author. The first classical regionalization is established based on the depth of radial flow, and the second classical regionalization is established by radial flow of slope, both of which is the guidance to build the system of hydrological regionalization for highway. With the assistance of GIS, the influence factors of hydrological regionalization for highway are analyzed and proved. According to the system and index of hydrological regionalization for highway, 6 first Classical regionalizations and 32 second classical regionalizations are divided. Described with the GIS system, the "hydrological regionalization for highway in China" (1:8000000) is established, which offers basic data for the hydrological regionalization of highwayThe author studies and disclosures the distribution characteristics of hydrological regionalization for highway in China which offer basic data for natural regionalization in China and for highway planning, highway design, highway construction, highway maintenance and so on, meanwhile, it is also meaningful to the future study for highway hydrological regionalization.
