Intangible culture has been passed from generation to generation in the long history of Chinese nation and is closely related to the masses'live. It is precious, belongs to valuable cultural resources, and covers the unique spiritual value, mode of thinking and cultural ideology of Chinese nation. As one of tangible carriers of the intangible culture, Chinese classical gardening draws useful elements from oral and intangible forms, promotes its own development, and brings forth new ideas with time going and its changing. Meanwhile good intangible culture makes its own progress with the development of gardening.From the protection of intangible cultural heritage, we must further study the national essence which is accumulated in the classical garden, continually pass on the new ideas that the intangible cultural are inherited and revolutionarily applied in the classical gardening, seek a approach that Chinese classical gardens can keep national identity and Chinese characteristics in globalization process.Based upon lots of reading materials and the investigating of some gardens in southern China and by employing theoretical analysis in conjunction with true garden instances, the nine types of intangible culture which are often applied in Chinese classical gardening were analyzed one by one in order that certain theoretical basis are concluded to explore the modern significance employed in Chinese classical gardening and to provide valuable information for the forming of an unique style of Chinese modern gardening. First of all, the effects of nine non-material culture types involved in the Chinese classical gardening such as the myth fable, literature, calligraphy, and the drawing, etc. are enumerated. Then, they were analyzed in conjunction with specific instances. Finally, the effects of the intangible culture on the Chinese classical gardens are summarized, meanwhile discussed the transmission and development of Chinese classical gardens with accumulated intangible culture. This article consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 briefly introduced the conservation status of the intangible culture in domestic and foreign countries, the general concept of the intangible culture and the defined concept of the intangible culture in this article. Chapter 2 introduced the research significance and content of this article. Chapter 3 analyzed the application of the nine intangible culture forms in the Chinese classical garden one by one. Chapter 4 summarized the relations of the intangible culture and the Chinese classical garden. Chapter 5 prospected the inheritance and the development of the Chinese classical garden containing with intangible culture forms in modern garden. Chapter 6 summarized main conclusions from the full article.
