Research On Universal Design Assessment System Of Public Library Construction

Universal design is a humanizing concept which concerns for each person from the physical to the psychological.It has been widely promoted in developed countries.With the accelerating of aging society,the enhancing of economic level,and the improving of people's democratic awareness,the promotion of Universal Design is necessary.Public library is the important place for populace to gain information and to learn knowledge.The users of public library are diversity, including older adults,people with disabilities,pregnant woman and so on.It can provide more enjoyable service for users,and respect each user fully by applying Universal Design to public library,so then the basic purpose of public library can be manifested turely.Comprehensive Assessment System for Universal Design Achievements was developed by Japanese Facility Management Advancement Association.Its main research methods are as follows: extracte the important factors for assessment;formulate assessment criteria from two aspects of "basical assessment item" and "Universal Design assessment item";determine the weight of each factor using Analytic Hierarchy Process.In this paper,the method of Comprehensive Assessment System for Universal Design Achievements was applied to build the Universal Design Assessment System of the Public Library Architecture.In the system,four function divisions of "reader moving space","reader business space","reader learning space"," reader physical space" was been proposed,the spatial structual model was been builded,and the weights of each factor was been calculated according to Analytic Hierarchy Process.As to the assessment criterias,the author formulated the"basical assessment items" according to existing related regulations in our country,and formulated the "Universal Design assessment items" by one-one correspondence between the pratical case and the seven principles of Universal Design,so the fundamental purpose of universal design can be grasped better.In addition, the author has also presented the steps of assessment for making clear the assessment process,and solving the question occured when differences between actual object and standard model exists. Finally the author gived example to carry on the assessment system. This paper study Universal Design from the Point of View of evaluation,taking the public library construction as the evaluation object,and hope to offer some reference for the researcher and initiate more Inquiry.
