Crown gear coupling, as a typical small scale heavy duty coupling, was developed in the latest 30 years in China to cope with the high torque transmission and compensation of the radial, axial displacement and angular displacement between the 2 axes, and the unique crown gear shape can avoid the stress concentration in sharp corner of teeth.This dissertation makes a thorough investigation on the current situation of crown gear coupling for stirring machine. After investigation, it was found that the studies on the FEA of full crown gear couplings contact on the misalignment situation are few in China. Now most of important couplings such as glasses, metro, metallurgy gear couplings are imports, Because of this situation, this paper carries through a series of researching work and brings through the project of crown gear coupling design. A crown gear coupling was manufactured, and then some experiments about crown gear coupling were done on test-bed. The test result showed that the designed crown gear coupling can satisfy the production requirement. The main jobs of this paper are shown as follows:(1) Check the customer's application requirements; given a thorough investigation on the current domestic and oversea situation of crown gear couplings by using preterit data, the key point of crown gear coupling is given. The project of crown gear couplings is indicated.(2) Calculated and designed crown gear coupling according to our traditional function and formula. And a detail proposal was quoted from the material, structure, size, lubrication and maintenance. To verify the design fatherly, FEA and practical test was carried out.(3) Finished the parametric design of gear couplings, and molding the gear couplings in the Unigraphics design platform.(4) On the alignment and misalignment situation, fulfilled the full teeth contact finite element analysis in the ANSYS environment.(5) Made the coupling according the Drawings, and tested the application in the same loading in UK, and The test included the running test without loading, statically loading test and loading test, and the test result showed that the designed crown gear couplings can satisfied the production requirement.Meanwhile, the tradition Hertz formula can fit the gear coupling contact model under the alignment status, but the corrected Hertz model can not fit the gear coupling contact model well.And the test result show that this gear coupling seems that can load more stress before failure, more test carrying out to find the reasonable safety factor for the gear contact stress will be helpful.
