Maintainability is an inherent quality characteristic of products, which measures the maintenance difficulty and cost when mechanical products go wrong. The improvement of products'maintainability can enhance system effectiveness and lower the life-circle cost of products. In order to improve products'maintainability and realize their prepotency, an effective maintainability design should be carried out.Aimed at the synchronous maintainability design of mechanical products, maintainability design technique, reachability analysis method, maintainability optimization method, digital mock-up and virtual maintenance test technique are studied based on the survey of the research status of maintainability design and optimization technique in this dissertation. The main contents of this dissertation are summarized as follows:(1) The flow of maintainability design is analyzed from two levels, which include the life-circle design level and CAD design level, followed by the analysis of the general maintainability design rule. Then the CAD platform and trait test technology are thoroughly discussed as the theoretical foundation of maintainability design.(2) The maintainability optimization method is deeply researched to improve the overall product quality. Firstly the correlative matrix of maintainability design and the maintainability's evaluation method is put forward, then the preference relationship model based on super attribute set is established by taking the multi-quality attribute into count. At last the optimal design method based on rule reasoning is brought forward.(3) The maintainability digital mock-up establishment method is studied in the paper. The maintainability information model is put forward and the maintainability development of CATIA is realized. Then the maintainability digital mock-up test technology is studied based on DELMIA and virtual maintenance method.(4) The maintainability design technology is applied to the fresh water pump of the TBD234 marine diesel. Based on the fault pattern and maintenance method analysis, the pump's maintainability is improved by using maintainability design and optimization technology. Then the pump's maintainability digital mock-up is established and the virtual maintenance result demonstrates the effectiveness of maintainability design.
