With the developing of the construction of highway and the improving of pavement grade, the asphalt pavement is widely applied and the skid-resistance of pavement becomes very important. The texture depth of the pavement have a closely link with its skid-resistance, but the current detection method of texture depth which have big error is inefficient and the detection result is easily affected by the human factors. This paper researches on using two digital method to evaluate the texture depth of asphalt pavement, realizes automation of detecting texture depth and improves the precision of the detection result. This paper comprehensive understands the indexes and the evaluation methods for asphalt pavement texture. At first, the paper uses a three-dimensional scanning technology to gather the three-dimensional coordinates of the pavement surface, uses MATLAB software to realize the three-dimensional model visualization of the pavement surface and calculate the MTD and MPD which are the indexes of macro-texture from the three-dimensional pavement model, and determines the practical application steps of using three-dimensional scanning technology to evaluate the texture depth of asphalt pavement. Secondly, the paper uses a digital gray image technology to gather the digital image and the three-dimensional gray model of the pavement, uses MATLAB software to calculate the MTD and MPD from the three-dimensional gray model, and determines the practical application steps of using digital image technology to evaluate the texture depth of asphalt pavement. At last, through the laboratory tests, the paper determines the rationality and applicability of using three-dimensional optical-scanning technology and digital image technology to evaluate the texture depth of asphalt pavement.
