Research On The Evaluation Of Urban Transportation Sustainable Development Based On Extension Method

China is one of the countries that urbanized and motorized fastest in the world, and faced with the serious issues that traffic congestion, increased pollution, increased exhaust emissions, the growing shortage of resources, issues such as widening gap between rich and poor and so on. All of these issues impact on the sustainable development of economics, society and environment. Also, these issues are universal that 21 Century facing the world and aroused wide attention from the international community. Transportation is on the basic and leader role of urban development, and the quality of transportation work has a decisive impact on urban development. Therefore, people are concerned about the sustainable development of urban and pay more attention to the issue of the sustainable development of transportation.This thesis constructs indexes system of sustainable development; of urban transportation through the research on sustainable development of urban transportation. Also, the thesis determines the weight of each index in the evaluation through the theoretical analysis and expert consultation. The thesis proposes an evaluative method for the level of urban transportation sustainable development, which is based on the matter-element and extension method. And take the development of Beijing urban transportation systems for example, assesses the conditions of the urban transportation sustainable development using extension evaluation method and AHP evaluation method respectively. The thesis determines the level of the hierarchy and the current state of sustainable development; also it points out the possible development trends and provides early warning. Through the comparative analysis of the conclusions, it proves the practicality of the extension method that used in the aspect of evaluation of urban transportation sustainable development. Finally, from the conclusion of the study, the thesis proposes the path to raise the level of sustainable development in urban transportation of Beijing.
