Since the advent of 21st century, the freight car in our country has developed to a new stage of heavy load and raising speed, more than 500 thousand freight cars have been modified and reached 120km/h, loading capacity of operating freight cars have been upgraded from 60t to 70t. The tonnage of general freight car with 23t axle load, 70t loading capacity is 5000t ~10000t, commercial speed 120km/h, loading capacity of gondola cars specially for transport of coal is up to 80t, and thus realize 20000t heavy haul transportation. Severe operation environment of "Speed increase and heavy haul" for railway rolling stock needs higher structural reliability. Safety and reliability of train is more and more affected by car performance, structural strength, overhaul life and operating conditions etc. key components like wheel, car axle, bolster, side frame have to work under serious conditions, they must withstand very large alternating load of of the bogie, pulling, compression, impact, curving etc. As the result of wrong design, bad umanufacture, bad overhaul quality, bad operating condition and so on, quality problem occurs on components of freight car bogie during the operation, in most of the time it is fatigue breakdown. Some problems have caused train operation accident, while some others posed threat to railway transportation. In this paper we will discusse problems happened to the key components of freight car bogie, find out the main reasons of those problems, and find out the resolutions by studying the the design, manufacture, maintenance and use of comprehensive measures,finally we provide some security means to ensure the stability and safety of car's running. Therefore, based on actual case occurred on key components of freight car bogie, this article introduces studies from the following aspects:1. Take failure sample of car axle, wheel, bolster and side frame and collect relevant data and documents about typical train operation accident.2. Analyze item by item the factors causing failure of components like axle, wheel, bolster and side frame.3. Analyze comprehensively the roots of various failures from the point of view of design, manufacture, maintenance and operating conditions.4. Lay down reasonable and scientific countermeasures through analysis, study and on-site research and survey based on the roots of failure and on the principle of source control, from easy to difficult, easy to execute and lowest cost.
