The power system is an indivisible and important part of the railway transport. With the rapid development of railway transport industry, a large number of new and high technologies are promoted and applied in the transport industry , meanwhile, requires a higher demand to the reliability of power supply , but how to assess the reliability of the power system? For a long time, people just do the assessment from the way of operation of power systems, equipment composition, environmental conditions, and several other aspects, they seldom use the concept of quantitative analysis. Study of the reliability of distribution system in China started in the early 1980s, due to the lack of the necessary statistical data and effective analytical methods, the development is relatively slow. At present, there is no specific report about the RAMS indicators quantitative assessment of 10 kV distribution system. This paper presents a specialized method for calculating the reliability of railway's distribution systems. That is using Failure Mode and Effect Analysis to assess the reliability of railway distribution network. In the principle of FMEA abstracts a reasonable model from the 10 kV distribution network. Meanwhile, combined with the cut set ideas, identify all the fault collection, calculate in the principle of equivalent parallel components. To simplify the calculation and reduce the expected accidents collection, the model needs to be pretreated first. In this step, one equivalent component will instead of the series components, which will significantly save computing time. Then do the comparison work in three aspects, which are availability rate, economy, anti-natural disasters. By comparing the various railway power supply programmes, the best distribution programme is conducted, that will distribute available resources more reasonably, reduce accidents and improve the availability of power supply system. But also provide a favorable analysis tools for the planning and management of the rail distribution system, and provide a scientific basis for the transformation of the railway network.
