By taking expressway in loess region as research object,combined with field investigation,experimetal analysis and indoor design method,researches on landscape design for soil and water conservation,greening and beautification,and maintance under snow storm condition were conducted.And following conclusions were reached.1.Proposing systematic designing idea and principal for greening design on expressway in Shaanxi.Greening on expressay reacted not only beautification and soil and water conservation,but also insuring driving safety.Species selection on expressway was different from Garden and afforeatation.Generally,greening on expressway reqired fast-growing,high resistance,and easy-maintaince.Combination of speices with different lifetime easily formed dynamic landscape,ecpecially when allay along the expressway,group feeature of the combination showed better effect.Natural afforestation was suggested if site condition permission,and solid greening was the best pattern to reduce environment effect by traffic and be beneficial to to ecological restoration along the way.2.Improving vegetation restoration thoery along express area in loess region.Under arid and semi-arid region,vegetation selected for restoration should have deep root system,and be drought tolerance.Pioneer species was needed in eralier restoration stages.Especially on steep slope,vegetation restoration should be combined with proper engineering measures.To the species selection,it was suggested that combination of ground cover species with samll shrub was the best choice.3.soil and water loss should be paid more attention in the ecological protection of expressway region.Due to the serious disturbance in expressway construction,soil and water loss easily occurred.Thus it is important to use soil and water conservation measures (including proper engineering and biological measures) to controll soil and water loss. Taking Xi(an) Tong(chuan) expressway as example,typical design for engineering and biological measures were conducted for soil and water conservation.4.landscape desgin on the expressway in loess region in Shaanxi should be suitable to local climate.In road area design,rich vegetation speceis and ration vegetation structure must be taken into account.Due to the long travel of expressway,micro-cliamte changed greatly, which had deep impact on the site condition.Thus it is important to select native species for community construction,which also had advantage in protecting biological diversity.5.Proposing protection and utilization plan to original vegetation along the expressway in widen road engineerings.When widen road,original vegetation along the expressway must be protected and utilized.Big tree transplanting and container seedling were the technical premise,and subsequently,these trees can be utilized into the widen road area according to the whole greening design reqirement of the expressway.In this way,original vegetation can be protected in maximum extent,and the history of vegetation and its culture features of original road will be extended into the widened road.
