Shipbuilding industry is an important strategic industry which provides main equipment for ship transportation and ocean exploitation, and it is also the industry foundation for safeguarding national security and maritime right. As a crucial process of shipbuilding, general assembly on the berth decides how to establish shipbuilding plan to some extent, and designing a good network of block erection on the berth has great effect on the quality of ship to be built and berth cycle. Therefore, how to optimize the network of block erection on the berth in order to equipoise the resources utilization and shorten the berth cycle effectively is of great importance.This paper chooses optimization of block erection sequence on the berth as research object, and relevant theory of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and resource constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP) as theory foundation. The following contents are included in the research.In the beginning, optimization system of block erection sequence on the berth is built based on research and state analysis about the scheduling problem on the berth, and detailed function and way to implement of every part of the system are presented. An approach to solve the problem about the optimization of block erection sequence on the berth using PSO is proposed and a modified particle swarm optimization is designed on the basis of analysis about the basic principle of PSO. The planning method of block erection sequence on the berth is discussed with constraint directed graph search method, and detailed way to build network of block erection on the berth is also studied.Relevant theory about RCPSP is applied to optimization of block erection sequence on the berth, and a mathematical model of multi-resource optimization of block erection sequence on the berth is built with the optimization object of minimized berth cycle, and at the same time, according to the real block erection process on the berth, another mathematical model of optimization of block erection sequence on the berth based on deviant situation is established. This paper also presents an approach to settle the optimization problem of block erection sequence on the berth with modified PSO, and a classic RCPSP example is employed to prove validity of this method.The optimization method of block erection on the berth developed in this paper is applied to actual optimization problem of block erection on the berth of an oil tanker's hull. Firstly, its network figure of block erection on the berth is established. Then its block erection sequence on the berth is gained using modified PSO, and the minimized berth cycle and time of every block to be erected are figured out. Finally, demand of resource during minimized berth cycle and astringency of modified PSO to this problem are analyzed, and the analysis results ensure feasibility of the method put forward in this paper to be used for researching berth scheduling problem.
